Globalization Management System

In today’s fast growing global economy, enterprise content evolves continually and on demand. From datasheets to corporate policies, from product manuals to marketing brochures, from software strings to websites, enterprise content comes in various shapes and formats such as Word, HTML, PDF, XML, etc. and belongs to various corporate entities such as business development units, R&D departments and post-sales support groups. The content can also be located anywhere in the world, from desktop computers to enterprise servers. And all this content may, at any given time, need to be translated into any number of languages. The decentralized and scattered condition of corporate content represents a serious challenge for any company to control even the source documentation creation with consistent style and common terminology, let alone trying to manage the translation/localization process. In fact, for many companies, it’s even difficult just to know where translation is happening and what the total cost is!

Globalization Management Systems are designed to streamline the localization process by centralizing the management of the localization of all enterprise content. By centralizing all of the localization management throughout the organization and working together with content management systems that recycle the source text, companies gain substantial efficiency and quality by recycling not only translation memory and terminologies, but also the L10N workflow that streamlines the localization process.

Traditional localization management that relies on the ad hoc approach to monitoring and management by different units within the organization is no longer effective to cope with the wide variety of content and the frequency that information needs to be updated and localized. GMS helps automate localization workflow by automatically detecting new or modified source content and then routing the changed content to the localization vendors. GMS also automates parts of the localization process with centralized linguistic assets such as TM, style guides, and glossaries. Using GMS, the localization vendor delivers translated content back to the client who then updates the TM and other linguistic assets automatically.

Among the many benefits offered by GMS:

  • save cost by automating and centralizing the localization management with multiple vendors
  • centralized terminology and translation memory management. To the client, TM represents important assets. By centrally managing the TM, the client company eliminates the risk of losing their TM due to a L10N vendor change.
  • gain visibility of the localization process and its costs
