Functionality on international
platforms
Because there is widespread industry support for Unicode enabling,
internationalizing software will provide platform and vendor
independence. Many platforms including Microsoft, HP, IBM,
Sun, Unisys, and Oracle, are Unicode enabled. Additionally,
the members of the Unicode Consortium cut across all industry,
political and linguistic borders. Therefore developing software
that is Unicode enabled greatly speeds up the process of localizastion
when needed.
Standards insure interoperability and portability. This is
accomplished by demanding conformant behavior of the software
independent of language. Applications are able to process
the text consistently and the localization specialist is able
to verify the conformance.
